Dominoes effect in East London
Sunday 26th July saw the culmination of Open Weekend, with hundreds of volunteers and breeze blocks setting out a 4 mile Dominoes run from Mile End Park to the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. Station House Opera and Arts Admin put on a spectacular event, which encouraged participation from those within the host boroughs and highlighted the artistic creativity of East London.
"Michelle Bloom, 37, a performance artist and administrator from Hoxton, said: "I heard about it on the internet and it sounded like a nice way to spend a Sunday. I thought it was really satisfying and something quite spectacular."
"Mary Davis, 67, a retired accounts worker from Ilford, set off the blocks in Mile End. She said: "I just love things that happen in London. I applied to go on the Trafalgar Square plinth and I drove a frisky sheep over London Bridge for its fair. I'm going to go down to Greenwich now and catch the end of the dominoes." Both quoted from The Evening Standard
Dominoes was one of two art projects for the Bank of America's CREATE Art Award, and a main feature of this year's festival. The £40,000 award is open for submissions for 2010 - to find out more see the art award page of the website.
